Sylvia Ashton-Warner of New Zealand calls it "inhaling and exhaling"... an air metaphor with the same sense as the water absorption metaphor. Being taught something is inhaling, and then going outside to play is exhaling. It's really, really hard to just inhale and then hold your breath all day. So many teachers and students try to do exactly that, and man, are they stressed out! Great article!
